Born in Rochdale, in the County Palatine of Lancaster, he migrated south many years ago, and now lives in Winchester, Hampshire.
John did a lot of technical drawing. Creative art was a hobby for the early years. He worked in oils, mainly landscapes and portraits. He also enjoyed life drawing and portraits in graphite. Love of life and nature combined with a fascination for Surrealism.
He recently discovered botanical art and watercolour. Still very much inspired by life and nature, but with a fresh perspective. And new challenges.
Not a great traveller, he has surprised himself by how many journeys he has made. In the process he developed an interest in photography. It started simply as a way of capturing memories, but grew. It provides subject matter for his art. I have a crib sheet I carry around which reminds me what f stops are, and ISO and other stuff. I need a better camera and lots more practice.
